The Annual Review, “The Friendly Way” of success

We have just released our Annual Review for 2016, with a brand new, fresh look. This year, expect more colours, pictures and infographics to illustrate our results, figures and achievements. In 2016, we gift-aided £817K to Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM), almost an 84% increase compared to 2015. The support of our customers, the Quaker community and our staff played a key role in this increased contribution to Quaker work. And so did “The Friendly Way”, our set of commitments to our customers, staff, suppliers and the community, expressing our heartfelt, responsible, loving and pioneering values. Friends House, with us, events don’t cost the earth

Our operations at Friends House (conferencing, The Light, the Quaker Centre Café and Friends House Restaurant) have had a remarkable year. In 2016, 99% of our customers were satisfied with the service provided at Friends House. This is due to the commitment of our staff “to ensure time with us is enjoyable” and to “go the extra mile” (read more about our commitments). We also reached a sustainability landmark, as we have reduced our carbon footprint by 29%, since 2009.

Swarthmoor Hall, the cradle of Quakerism

Swarthmoor Hall, located in Ulverston, Cumbria, is the birthplace of Quakerism. The Company has been managing the Hall for a few years now. It oversees the versatile onsite operations: the Hall, the courses, guest accommodation, the Barn Café, the newly opened Shop (and by the end of 2017, conferencing facilities). In 2016, 16,000 people visited the Hall where George Fox once found protection and hospitality. That is 8,500 more than in 2015. Visitors also enjoyed the café, where local produce are served, including fresh dairy from the onsite farm. Our vision and how it will be achieved

We want to build on the many achievements of 2016. To do so, we will carry on with our sustainable approach to events. We will respond to the demand for affordable and ethical event spaces. We will also carry on supporting our staff through fair pay and our various schemes, such as the training academy. We believe that success should not be done at the expense of the environment or people. In our tenth year of running a successful sustainable business, we intend to show that sustainability can make a business thrive.
