The Meetings Industry Association (MIA) has just published its list of shortlisted teams for the miaList Awards 2017. Our Hospitality and Facilities Team has been nominated for the “Venue Team Award”. You can vote for our team on the MIA website (voting closes on Friday 1st September).
A recognition from the events industry
Our team’s nomination in the “Venue Team Award” category comes as a great recognition. The MIA is the leading association in the conference, meetings and events sector in the United Kingdom.
Earlier this year, the MIA awarded us with an AIM Higher Silver accreditation. This accreditation is an assurance of excellence for customers and event buyers. Our nomination for the miaList is in the continuity of what we are aiming to build at Friends House: “The Friendly Way” [PDF: 2.41mb - new window] of doing business.
Offering sustainable and ethical radical hospitality
We are a Quaker company, the trading arm of Britain Yearly Meeting, and in 2016, as well as providing greater financial support to its work, we launched “The Friendly Way”. This concept expresses our team's commitments to our customers, staff, suppliers, community and themselves. It is informed by our four main values: we are heartfelt, responsible, loving, and pioneering.
“The Friendly Way” and our values have developed from staff and workshops began in 2015, discussing and sharing what was at the heart of a Quaker business. These values underpin how we work towards our goal of being an exemplary ethical organisation providing excellent service.
Our team’s achievements
Our team go the extra mile to create a great event experience at Friends House. This is confirmed by our continuous customer satisfaction score of 99%, over the last 2 years. You can read some of our testimonials here. Our events are sustainable, ethical and affordable. With us, events don't cost the earth. We believe that profit does not have to be made at the expense of the people or the environment.
Staff have embraced the Quaker values and have been proactive in putting faith back into business and action. They have established a supportive programme for the Douglas House Project. This helps members of disenfranchised groups go back into the workplace. They supported them in setting up their social enterprise, a bakery named “Chefs in the House”.
