To achieve a Food for Life Gold Award a venue must:
- A minimum of all ingredients used must be organic
- Source ethical and environmentally friendly products such as MCS fish and free range eggs and meat
- Create menus with health in mind
- Use locally produced/grown ingredients
- Ensure all meat used is farm assured (the meat Friends House uses is all organic)
Catering manager for Friends House Jamie Scott said:
“We are really pleased that Friends House Restaurant has maintained its Food for Life Served Gold Award, something we have held since 2012. This rewards the effort that the entire team put in every day. They ensure the food we serve is not only delicious, but also sustainable and healthy. We are also committed to using locally grown ingredients. This means that our menus feature seasonal dishes that support local businesses. With the recent news about traceability of meat, this accreditation also recognises that we trace the meat we use back directly to the farm.”
Last year, Friends House won the Support the Community Award at the Food Made Good Awards, organised by the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Friends House is also a member of the Vegetarian Society. This means that vegetarians and vegans can dine in the Restaurant and Café with confidence. Following a poll of Restaurant visitors, Friends House Restaurant has also decided to serve exclusively vegetarian and vegan dishes, starting in 2019.
Friends House put the same amount of care in the food provided in their event catering. Delegates using rooms at Friends House or The Light can enjoy their meals, happily knowing that the food is organic, Fairtrade and locally sourced where possible.
Friends House Restaurant is open 12pm – 2pm Monday – Friday. If you are interested in trying the event catering at Friends House, speak to our events team today.
