Friends House Hospitality Limited: a year of living our values

Paul Grey, CEO of Friends House Hospitality Limited, explains how we lived our values in 2017:

With countless highlights and achievements, 2017 has been an incredibly successful year for Friends House Hospitality Limited. I would like to share some of these successes with you.

Venue accreditation, anniversary and carbon footprint reduction

In February we received an AIM Higher Silver accreditation from the Meetings Industry Association (MIA), one of the highest levels of accreditation given by the MIA to event and conference venues. It serves as an assurance of excellence for customers and event buyers. The following month, as we celebrated our tenth anniversary as a company, we also revealed that Friends House had reduced its carbon footprint by 29 per cent since 2009 – a remarkable accomplishment.

Living our sustainable values

April saw us ‘highly commended’ by the Camden Sustainability Awards, which celebrate successful leaders in Camden’s thriving economy while recognising outstanding examples of business growth, sustainability, urban design, and corporate social responsibility. In May we published our Annual Review 2016, which showcased our most successful year to date.

Supporting the community and event professionals' recognition

In June we launched our ‘suspended soup’ scheme, which enables customers to buy a soup for someone in need when purchasing one for themselves. For every soup bought, we match it. September saw us welcome our first ever fashion show in The Light. And in October we won two awards: the Support the Community award at the SRA’s Food Made Good Awards and Bronze in the Best New or Refurbished Venue category at the London Venue Awards 2017. As November drew to a close, we were immensely proud to see our first Douglas House Project apprentice, Michael, pass his apprenticeship, before taking up a role within the Hospitality Company.

Building on our values

I firmly believe that as a company and as staff members we were able to live out our values on a daily basis in 2017. We have been a heartfelt, loving, pioneering, and responsible team, and we look forward to 2018 with confidence and excitement.
