Friends House wins another sustainability award

We are excellent at water resource management

We have just been highly commended for our excellence in water resource management at the Camden Business Sustainability Awards 2017. The awards ceremony was organised by the London Borough of Camden and the Camden Climate Change Alliance, of which we are a member. The event took place at The Francis Crick Institute and gathered Camden businesses and organisations which work to make Camden and London greener.

Our Team with our sustainability award

How to reduce water usage by 47%

So, why were we highly commended? Since 2009, we have reduced our water usage by 47%. This great achievement has been made possible by modernising and replacing all the toilets and wash basins at Friends House. They are now equipped with short flush and tap control systems. Our customers, colleagues from Quakers in Britain, Friends and Team have also all been very supportive of our efforts to reduce water consumption.

Going further for sustainability

We now intend to reduce our water consumption even more. In the beginning of 2016, we installed a rainwater harvesting system in our garden. We have reduced our carbon emissions by 29% since 2009, falling only 1% short of the pledge made by the Quaker community following the Copenhagen Climate Conference in 2009. Our aim is now to further reduce our carbon footprint by 4% year on year until 2021.
