Our café and bookshop are reopening with a new vegetarian and vegan offer

We’ve got some great news! After a long-awaited return, the café and bookshop are finally reopening on Monday 7 February! And the offer is changing, we’ll serve vegetarian and vegan food and drinks from now on. And that’s not the only novelty, the café is also changing name and becoming Seed Café.

A new vegetarian and vegan café for Euston

You may wonder why we’re renaming the café: Seed Café? We’ve chosen to be 100% vegetarian and vegan to align with our sustainability ethos. We want to be as eco-friendly as possible, in line with the Quiet Company Strategic Environmental and Sustainability Plan. We listed some of our green commitments below:

  • No ingredients or retail goods containing palm oil by 2024. (Including products that claim to contain sustainably sourced palm oil)
  • No non-essential parts and equipment or food produce transported by air freight by 2025
  • All food purchases compatible with our land impact standard by 2025

For the time being, we won’t have our buffet of hot food while we get back on our feet. However, there will be a selection of vegan sandwiches, fruit salads, cakes and pastries, with some gluten-free options too. Our soup of the day is also coming back in a vegan and gluten-free version. The only animal product we will have is the dairy milk.

A café to make a difference in the community

For us, being sustainable also means being ethical. We’ll source as much local products as possible on top of using ethical suppliers such as Nemi Teas. They provide employment to refugees to give them local work experience and job readiness skills to enter the UK workforce. We will also serve Redemption Roasters coffee. They are the world’s first prison-based coffee roastery and train offenders in coffee industry skills with the aim of reducing reoffending in the UK. Last but not least, we will serve the cakes from our Bake The Difference trainees. Quiet Company runs this programme in conjunction with London Pathways Partnership. Ex-offenders learn practical and theoretical cooking and baking skills in the Friends House kitchen to reintegrate into society. Expect delicious bakes!

Our café: marching into our new organic vegan friendly future

The team has worked hard to reopen the café. After several setbacks and issues due to Covid, we’re so happy to finally be able to reopen the café. Marina Radojevic, Assistant Catering Manager: “With specialty coffee made by Redemption Roasters,  Zaytoun products from Palestine and our new range of Nemi teas, we are marching into our new organic vegan friendly future! Love and effort invested by our team in making this happen is the difference that will make us stand out! We can’t wait for the 7th of February!”

We’re planting seeds of change through our food and the books we sell, which is essential if we want to tackle the climate crisis. We hope to see you next week on Monday 7 February!
