We are a Living Wage Employer

Friends House is a Living Wage Employer, paying staff above the London Living Wage. We are committed to equality and fairness among our employees.

Being a Living Wage Employer: paying staff fairly

Through Quakers in Britain, we have been a Living Wage Employer since August 2013. We pay all our staff within a 1- 4 ratio and above the London Living Wage, which is £10.55 per hour. It is calculated every year to meet the real cost of living. It is really important for us that our staff are paid fairly and proportionally. In the Hospitality sector, many workers earn the Minimum Wage, also known as the National Living Wage (£8.21 for workers over 25). At Friends House, no matter what your age is, you are guaranteed to be paid above the London Living Wage rate.

Raising awareness on the Living Wage

As a Living Wage Employer, we also spread the word about The Living Wage Foundation and encourage others to join. We introduced our “values on procurement and services” and pre-qualification tendering process to ensure potential and existing companies are Living Wage Employers. This approach has led to existing suppliers making a commitment to become a UK Living Wage Employer. We also work closely with disenfranchised groups (read our article on Bake The Difference) and when we employ apprentices or other staff, we promote the benefits of the campaign as part of recruitment.

Ethical event venue

When you hold an event at Friends House, you can be sure that every staff involved is paid fairly. We believe in the three Ps: People, Planet, Profit. Our venue is ethical and sustainable, we are operating in the respect of our staff and the planet. If you would like to find out more, contact our Events team now: 020 7663 1100 or events@quaker.org.uk.
